Hello and welcome to New Winter Studios. We are a small production company based in Manchester in the North West of England. We have been away for a while, but we are making a bit of a comeback and decided to start our website and blog from scratch.

To get things started, we will be working on a short horror scene (hopefully in time for the Halloween season). The plan is to shoot this entirely on 16mm Black & White Double-X film using the Aaton LTR. It will be the first project shot on this camera and we are using it to test ourselves technically and personally to grow our expertise in the motion picture landscape.
One of the biggest issues I have found with trying to start a production company is time. Working full time in a field that is completely separate to Filmmaking, I have found it difficult to get started or even just find others who are interested in my projects. There’s this voice in the back of my head saying that “you can’t do it” or “you’re wasting peoples time” if you try and get anyone involved in your projects, including friends in the industry, which results in things never end up getting off the ground.
So, this next small project will be to get some practice with lighting, camera placement and pacing rather than storytelling or character development. It is something that I can spend some time on alone and get something to showcase what I can do and get some feedback.
I will be documenting the process as I go, such as scripting, prep work, even what works and what isn’t working. If you are interested in indie filmmaking, film stock tests or just want to see someone figure stuff out, you’re in the right place.
