Echo in the Halls - Poster - Thumbnail - New Winter Studios

For the past few years, I have wanted to created a short film just in time for Halloween. I’ve had different ideas over the years, but most of them have centered around one concept: a person alone at home when strange things begin to happen.

The reason I wanted to make a film like this is that limiting the number of actors required and the number of crew members means that I have a smaller budget. In this case however, I managed to produce this film with one actor. In fact, the actor is me and I am also the director. So this serves as a example of how to make a film on your own with no crew or actors with a 16mm cinema camera!

Echo in the Halls is a short horror film produced by New Winter Studios. As the director, I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could produce a film on my own on 16mm film using Kodak Double-X film. The film has no crew and was shot completely solo.

It features a man who is home alone when he is woken by a noise coming from downstairs. For the most part he dismisses it as the house settling until it becomes undeniable that something is in the house with him. The man explores the property trying to find the source of the intruder, only to find that it’s no natural intruder.

As a new film production company, this film explores the concepts of pacing, cinematograhpy and lighting within the horror genre. It uses the Aaton LTR 16mm camera, which is a sync sound camera from the 70’s using black & white film to capture that gritty look of horror from the past.

Watch Echo in the Halls below and let me know what you think in the comments.
